Surrender to her cold embrace and nails of rot will cut you open. Tremble as she whispers your name.

BIO

Nattfly is the vessel of Swedish Black Metal artist Ask. The music is uncompromisingly ritualistic, rooted in the second wave and inspired by classical harmonies as well as Scandinavian tradition. Fuelled by animistic belief and spiritual struggles, every Nattfly album is a ritual grounded in earth and underworld. The use of distorted violin allows for unique texture and expression.

The debut album ”Sånger för den kalla modern” was released 2023. It consisted of seven devotional hymns for the Cold Mother in her different forms and aspects.

“Flocken”, released 2025, is the second full length album of Nattfly. It has a dissonant, claustrophobic sound with hypnotic rhythms, reflecting a ritual of clawing through the mud, reaching through barren fields of endless nightmares for a dream long lost.

“Nattfly” is Swedish for a type of moth. Their flickering in the summer nights, mesmerized and consumed by any ray of light, reflect the cycle of life and the meaning of death, the futile attempts to fly towards something better during a lifetime both short and endless. The fragile, broken moth wings resemble the fragile, broken sound of the acoustic violin, alone in a forest of blastbeats and distortion.

Nattfly will evolve with every album, but the roots will remain the same.

MANIFESTO

Silence the voices of self-preservation, of self-assertion, of personal growth and satisfaction. Open your mind to her whisper. Feel the cold undercurrent grip your feet as she weighs her options to pull you under or carry you back to shore. Open your veins and allow the flow of life and death to enter and exit unhindered by the strive for survival echoing through passed generations. Allow that pain to change you. Allow that fear to ebb and flow as it ebbs and flows with the spirits of the ocean, the forests, the mountains and the land. Yield and feel the boundaries of skin and reason give way to the touch of those hands, hesitantly reaching for your living warmth. The benefit of suffering is the empty space it leaves behind. The rifts in a self repeatedly broken.
